Commemoratimg the Anniversary of Liberation of Leningrad

The city of Kirovsk in the Leningrad region held an annual open snow volleyball tournament in commemoration of the 73th anniversary of full liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege.
The venue for the tournament dedicated to this meaningful for the residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region date was chosen for a reason. There is the legendary Nevsky Pyatachok in the vicinity of Kirovsk, a bridgehead on the left bank of the Neva River, where in 1941-1943 Soviet army was fiercely fighting the Nazis, repeating its attempts to launch an offensive and lift the Siege of Leningrad. Although all attempts failed, the Nevsky Pyatachok has been the symbol of courage, heroism and self-sacrifice of the defenders of Leningrad.
This year it was the fifth and the largest tournament. 38 teams from St. Petersburg, the Leningrad region, Velikiy Novgorod, Pskov, Tver, Cheboksary and Yekaterinburg competed on its fields.
As always, the Tournament was highly "emotional". Players from St. Petersburg, who had been participating in winter volleyball tournaments organized by the Northwestern Volleyball Association for more than a decade, left other teams in snow dust and swept the medal stand. Ekran, a team from the Specialized Children and Youth School of Olympic Reserve won first place among junior teams. A team from Petersburg's Central Youth Sports School took second place. A team from a sports school from the Kirovsk district of the Leningrad region finished third.
The Orimi Trade Group has been one of the long-term (nearly two decades) sponsors of the Northwestern Volleyball Association. For the last few years, TESS tea has been Association's official beverage and has been served at any event or competitions with the participation of NWVA.
