In memory of Shteyman U.G.

On February 23 it was 100 years from the day of birth of Ustim Genrikhovich Shteyman (1920-2017) – the founder and continuous President of the Russian Association of Tea & Coffee Producers (“ROSCHAYKOFE”), a distinguished expert and popularizer of tea.
Shteyman, being a war veteran who experienced all hardships of the Great Patriotic War, devoted all his postwar life to the development of the national tea industry. For many years he had been the leader of “Krasnodar Tea” production association which, with his direct participation, was transformed into a model farm of subtropical cultures in Russia. Under his direction, the common practices of the Russian tea planting started to implement the newest achievements of the Russian and foreign agro-science which allowed ensuring stable volumes of harvested tea in the Krasnodar Region. Ustim Genrikhovich was the first who offered to create famous Russian-style “Tea Houses” in Dagomys which became one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sochi.
The contribution of Ustim Genrikhovich in the establishment and development of the Russian modern tea industry cannot be overstated. The activities of “ROSCHAYKOFE” have been facilitating the promotion of Russian tea brands, active popularization of tea, development of the principles of healthy competition between Russian tea companies for many years.
In commemoration of 100 years from the day of birth of Shteyman U.G., the sea quay in the micro-district Dagomys of Lazarev District in Sochi was named after him. Henceforth, the quay on the right river-bank of Dagomys river, starting from Dagomys river outlet and going north-westward, is called Shteyman Quay in honor of the Hero of Socialist Labour, honored agriculturist of the Russian Federation, honorary man of Sochi - Ustim Genrikhovich Shteyman – the memory of whom is kept by all those who belong to tea industry.
